Have you been experiencing a nagging feeling about finding comfort college? Is it because you're unhappy in your career, or hit a plateau and wish a new challenge? Well for me personally, a minimum of ten years had passed before I began to consentrate quietly to myself about if I is going returning to 4 Year Bachelor Degree to pursue a Master's Degree. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from The University of Michigan in 1996, and I thought I was finished degree for the remainder of my well being. However, from a stressful number of unfulfilling jobs and experiencing several layoffs in the tough job economy, I pointed out that I needed to formulate my resume with additional education to make me a more vital asset and employee. The job postings that I tried to apply to desired individuals with a Master's Degree as well as some years of professional experience of various fields. The starting salaries on average were a minimum of $10k over what I was earning at the time, so those positions really seemed appealing to me. Although the job prospects were exciting and I felt that my current work experience and education was suitable, apparently it wasn't because those positions required applicants to experience a Master's Degree. According to the CensusBureau's 2009 Current Population Survey, only 7.9% in the adult population within the United States features a Master's Degree. As exclusive as that number sounds and looking to be a part of that demographic, it had been hard to contemplate finding comfort college to acquire another degree and spend 1000s of dollars in doing so, especially after being out of school for so long.
As fate would have it, the trigger that woke me up out of complacency occurred at work eventually, in March 2011, when I became disheartened with the work ethic and extreme sales tactics in the company I was employed by at the time. I was frustrated with apathetic co-workers, the job, the 110 mile round-trip commute, and also the hours. It scared me where my well being was at that time. I also became worrisome about the job hopping that has been developing on my resume, to no fault of my own, personal - company layoffs and financial woes. Consequently, residing in Michigan in the worst recession in my well being (2007-to the existing), I took jobs to pay for the rent while looking for an improved job. I even contemplated moving out of state, but I already spent 5 years for the East Coast, simply to be forced to move back home after the events of 9/11 within my beloved New York City. However, by living in the state hard hit with the recession and being affected by high unemployment rates, that in of itself forced my hand and provided me the motivation to look for an improved life professionally, and financially, by causing current debts go returning to college.
In the back of my mind, I automatically knew which university to apply to, and things to study for. I pride myself in succeeding as a decisive person, so as soon as the seed was planted within my mind, I knew what I were required to do. Based with a hobby that I have been active looking for better part of ten years, writing on the web and doing social media developments, I knew the Communications field was the longer term career for me personally. I applied to Eastern Michigan University but got accepted and started my program in the Fall of 2011. As of this moment, I am taking 6 credits a semester, and after 5 classes so far, while working full-time, and actively engaged within my personal social media work, I have a 4.0 GPA. I was meant to be last 4 Year Bachelor Degree and I can't be elated and feeling proud! I am scheduled to graduate with a Master's Degree in Communication within the Fall of 2013, and I want to create my own, personal communications based web business, as well as work within the public sector in assisting an organization with its communication and marketing needs. I only wish I could make this decision earlier, but upon reflection, that is the right time to maintain school as I know 100% what my goals are, and I am a lot more mentally and emotionally stable to indicate the discipline that working full-time and driving to class through the night requires.
