Being a Shabbat Hot Plate music teacher for just one hour sure goes fast. It is so much fun and truly rewarding. There is lots of labor in preparing for the upcoming day per week. The children anticipate our time of being together, learning all about music.

I usually begin the rhythm and music class which has a sort of story-telling gesture. I say. "Good morning class." The solution is usually a typical reply, "Good morning Mrs. Rogers." After awhile, we introduce that music is similar to your heart beating knowning that some notes are played slower than the others. We proceed to fast songs for example Pop! Goes the Weasel and Yankee Doodle. Then we march inside a circle to The Wheels about the Bus. There are tons of children's songs available for your use.

It is now that I begin to talk in-depth about teaching the younger generation the music activity notes. We name the notes, speak about how many beats correspond to that particular note and we all practice clapping.

So, within the first part of the hour, the youngsters have some review of a Quarter Note, like a black note that receives one count. Then, we have the Half Note, like a white note that receives 2 beats. The children learn patience in pausing and holding a communication for a longer count. Finally, we move on to the whole note that is held 4 counts.

We review by clapping. Then we go into the rhythm box and pullout the sticks. The class learns to click the beats using the rhythm sticks to Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. Again, there are plenty of great songs from which to choose. If we have time, we proceed to other rhythm instruments.

Towards the finish in the hour, I enjoy introducing the kids to your music game. We played "I Spy The Whole Note" with pretend magnifying glasses. I like to place flash cards round the room and have the kids close their eyes. On the count of three, the flash cards are turned over, with eyes opened the youngsters begin their hunt for that of a whole note appears like. It's fun to teach in a Shabbat Hot Plate music class.
